Demand in context

What is eBay sell-through rate?

Sell-through rate, often shortened to STR, compares the number of sold listings with the number of active listings for the same product or market. It helps a reseller look beyond asking prices. A search may show attractive active prices, but those listings represent supply and competition—not proof that buyers are purchasing at those prices.

The calculator uses sold listings ÷ active listings × 100%. With 8 sold listings and 20 active listings, the result is 40%. If there are no active listings, the calculator returns N/A rather than dividing by zero. A result above 100% is mathematically possible when more items sold during the measured period than remain active now.

Why sold listings matter

Sold results provide evidence that transactions occurred. They can help establish a more defensible expected sale price and show whether the product has recent demand. Sold data can still be incomplete or delayed, and listing titles may mix conditions, quantities or product variations, so matching quality matters.

Why active count can mislead

Active count alone can look favorable when inventory is scarce, but zero active listings does not reveal how many buyers exist. A large active count can also include unrelated brands, pack sizes or conditions. Review active and sold results together, and make sure both groups describe comparable products.

What high or low STR may indicate

A higher sell-through rate may indicate stronger demand relative to current competition. A lower rate may indicate slower movement, excess supply or listings that are priced above what buyers accept. Those are signals, not absolute rules. An STR above 50% is not automatically a good buy, and a lower result is not automatically a pass.

Interpret STR alongside category norms, recent sold prices, product condition, listing quality, seasonality, profit, ROI and the amount of cash tied up in inventory. Also use a consistent time window. DealMeter labels sold research as Sold 90d so the period is visible rather than mixing counts from different ranges.

Use comparable listings

A useful calculation depends on useful inputs. Separate single items from two-packs, three-packs and larger bundles. Avoid combining new and used condition when condition materially affects demand. Confirm model numbers, sizes and product variations. A precise search with fewer comparable results can be more informative than a large mixed result set.

This public tool performs only the arithmetic and does not call eBay or consume a DealMeter analysis. The complete DealMeter workflow can research active listings, available sold data and pack opportunities from a UPC.
